An Interview With Trent

Posted by Stephanie Harrison on

Hello ladies.  I hope you all have had a great Monday and a good start to your week.  I'm sure some of you had the day off in observation of Columbus Day.  I remember it was one of my favorite holidays during my teaching career!  A day off in October.  I loved it!

This weekend one of my favorites came from New York for a visit, my cousin Trent. There is never a dull moment once Trent is around!  Yesterday, we all enjoyed every second we could get with him, eating and laughing around Grandma Darlene's table.  While he was here, I was able to get him to sit down for a bit and do a short interview with me.

What is your title? Senior Account Executive at Fashion GPS located in the Heart of Manhattan

Describe your job in simple terms. We help Fashion Brands keep track of their samples each season...it's the technology side of Fashion.  I feel that is a very dumb downed version, but I know it's still hard to understand if you are not in the industry.

Can you tell me some of the brands you currently work with?  We work with Gucci, Marc Jacobs, J. Crew, Gap, Banana Republic and many more.

What does a work day look like for you?  Meeting with potential clients to learn more about their samples management across departments and demonstrating how our product, Fashion GPS, can help their business.

Where you involved in Fashion Week this year?   If so, to what extent?  Yes.  Very.  PR Teams use Fashion GPS to manage Fashion Shows from creating custom invites, to tracking RSVP's, and Barcode Guest Check In, just to name of few of the ways we are involved. Fashion Week is a crazy week for us.

Sorry Trent, but it wouldn't be me if I didn't ask...Did You See Any Celebrities?  Hahahah! Well this year, I was behind the scenes more.  But last year I saw Kim Kardashian and Beyonce at the Vera Wang show.  But this year I did see top Fashion Editors, Anna Wintour (movie Devil Wears Prada was based on her), Eva Chen, and Fashion Icon Iris Apfel.  To most these people probably don't mean much, but it the Fashion Industry they are super stars.

What Fashion Shows Did You Work For?  We do 95% of the shows in New York City, so that is very hard to list.  New York City kicks off Global Fashion Week, it then hits London, Milan, and Paris.  Fashion GPS is heavily involved in all.

What were big trends you saw for Spring/Summer 2016 during Fashion Week? Like I said, we are on the technology side of this business, so I don't play deep into keeping up with the trends, but I did see some reoccurring themes.  Ruffles, Off the Shoulder, Cold Shoulder, Florals, Mini Pleats, Crochet, Fringe, Vivid/Happy Colors.

What current Fall Trends you are seeing around the city?  Where I live in Williamsburg, it's a little bit hipster.  A bit different than in the city and other neighborhoods. I'd say Fringe, Plaid, Shearling,

So, did you ever think you would be in the Fashion Industry?  H---- NO!!!  Double No!  Triple No!  No Way!

How did you get into the industry?  Well I was in the right place and the right time.  I'm in New York, it's one of the top fashion cities in the world.  Actually my first experience in this industry was working for fashion photographer, Nigel Barker, famous for being a judge on America's Next Top Model.  I worked as his assistant and learned a lot from that experience.

Tell me your 3 favorite things to do in New York.  Eat out at the best hidden gems in world, hang out in my neighborhood, Williamsburg and other Brooklyn neighborhoods, and explore other areas and neighborhoods in the city.  New York never gets old.  And it feels so small, which is weird, considering it's a city.  I hardly ever go out that I don't run in to someone I know.
